EvaluNet would like to thank those facilitators that have taken the effort to ensure that the investment the school/Khanya has made in XT is not wasted. I know the teachers at your schools are very appreciative.

I believe facilitators are 'worth their weight in gold'. If a school is fortunate enough to have good technology infrastructure, it is then paramount that teachers learn how to effectively integrate these newly acquired tools into their professional practice.

The facilitator can support, guide and mentor teachers to become confident and competent users of educational software such as a learning managment system. Schools need to adequately invest in the ongoing professional development of their staff.

A facilitator is a human being who must form part of the WCED: Khanya - "ICT Department" and stay part and must become a "permanant" component of the WCED. Why ? because they are

F = Fabulous and
A = Absolute
C = Compulsory
I = Integrators (that are)
L = Leading (and guiding)
I = Instructional
T = Tecnological
A = Atributors (educators)
T = To
O = Obtainable
R = Results (with technology) - eventually !!

I agree with Mr. Pearce completely. He makes two important points: (1) Administrators set the tone in their school. Their encouragement of the use of technology will make a huge difference it its implementation; and (2) Careful planning is crucial for effective staff development and training for classroom integrations.

Facilitators are the key to a successful technology project in schools. A professional and motivated group of facilitators form the vital link between implementation of the technology and succesful curriculum delivery. Khanya is fortunate to have such a body of people, the trick is to ensure that their services are optimised at each school, and here the principal plays a vital role. Schools where the facilitator is welcomed as an integral part of the school's programme to develop the use of technology make quick progress to becoming proficient in the effective use of technology in the classroom. Schools where the facilitator is kept at arm's length, as it were, make slower progress. All to often, valuable time is wasted when training sessions and other arrangements are cancelled at the last minute. Good planning on the part of the facilitator AND the school lay the foundation for the effective integration of technology in the curriculum delivery process. The principal plays a key role in managing this process and ensuring that the window of opportunity open to the school while the facilitator visits, is used to maximum effect.
